the bottom end of a town down south

I spent last weekend in my favourite city, Cape Town. While I was there, I stayed at a beautiful and old little hotel called Kimberly.

It's located downtown in an area called Gardens, which is full of history. Down the road is the House of Parliament, up the road is the District Six Museum and the hotel itself is the oldest standing building on that end of town. They say it was initially built to serve as a transit spot for all the miners who were travelling from Cape Town to Kimberly in the diamond rush era. The hotel is beautifully preserved and has tall walls and high ceilings, a long winding staircase, old creaking wooden floors, solid antique furniture, black-n-white pictures of dead people on the walls and all the charm and character that comes along with that. I loved it!

It’s also across the street from a delightful little coffee shop where an old Greek man happily served me breakfast and entertained me with light conversation every morning, which all ended with him declaring with a smile “you’re so lovely”, to which I returned the smile.
I also spent quite a bit of time sleeping on the beach, as one should when they find themselves in Cape Town. One day, I spotted an old couple taking a lazy stroll on the promenade and was reminded of how simple and beautiful life can be.
